Leonardo DiCaprio Hits the Clubs in Cannes

Taking a break from his promotional duties at the Cannes Film Festival, Leonardo DiCaprio partied at Gotha nightclub on Friday night (May 17). The “Great Gatsby” star sported a T-shirt and black cap as he lit up and chatted with some female admirers at the festival hotspot. On Thursday, the 38-year-old actor supported collaborator and friend Martin Scorsese as he announced his next project. Though Leo’s flick premiered already at the opening night, Martin Scorsese’s event, hosted by Johnnie Walker blue, built excitement for his film “Silence.”

Cashing in on its highly-anticipated status, “Star Trek Into Darkness” grabbed an early lead at the box office for the weekend of May 17-19, 2013. The J.J. Abrams sci-fi film garnered an impressive $22 million Friday in its freshman debut, and is looking to a $62.2 million three-day total. Looking to slide in to the second spot is “Iron Man 3″, the Robert Downey, Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow -fronted Disney/Marvel picture, which picked up $9.5 million on Friday

Getting excited for the big event, Nicole Kidman and Carey Mulligan attended the IFP and Calvin Klein party during the Cannes Film Festival at the L’ecrin Plage on Thursday (May 16). The “Others” star wore a sleeveless black leather dress and matching heels while the “Great Gatsby” cast member chose a strapless form-fitting black dress with open-toed heels

Kicking off the 66th Cannes Film Festival, “The Great Gatsby” held its big premiere as part of the Opening Ceremony today (May 15). Leonardo DiCaprio showed up at the Theatre Lumiere with his costars Carey Mulligan , Tobey Maguire , and Isla Fisher and posed for the paparazzi prior to the screening.

After smashing records right and left during its freshman weekend at the box office, “Iron Man 3″ picked up where it left off to take top honors with movie goers for May 10-12, 2013. The Robert Downey, Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow -starred Disney/Marvel picture grabbed $19.8 million on Friday, and will end the weekend with a $72.5 million total. Grabbing the second spot is the newly released Leonardo DiCaprio -fronted “The Great Gatsby,” which garnered a first weekend total of $51.1 million. Rounding out the top five in earmarked earnings were the action film “Pain & Gain,” starring Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg ($5 million) in third, the new Tyler Perry comedy “Peeples” ($4.9 million) in fourth, and the the Jackie Robinson bio-pic, “42,” ($4.7 million) in fifth
